HKEdU

Ms. Pearl Law has been invited to serve as a guest lecturer in the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. She is teaching the course Working with Families from Diverse Backgrounds (ECE4233), which is part of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Early Childhood Education) programme. This course aims to help aspiring educators understand and apply legal and ethical principles to support families from diverse backgrounds.

The course covers several key areas, including family law, tort law, anti-discrimination law, child protection, domestic violence, and policies and ethical issues related to early childhood education. Drawing from her extensive legal experience, Ms. Law shares practical insights that bridge theory and real-world cases, helping students understand how the law plays a crucial role in supporting families and safeguarding children’s rights. For example, the course explores how courts handle divorce and child custody issues, as well as how the Protection of Children and Juveniles Ordinance ensures the safety and welfare of vulnerable children.

Beyond teaching legal knowledge, the course emphasizes the leadership role of educators, guiding students to develop innovative strategies for fostering collaboration between families and schools. This includes addressing challenges such as poverty, cultural conflicts, and diverse family structures. By engaging with these topics, students not only enhance their professional skills in law and education but also gain a deeper understanding of how to actively promote cooperation between families, schools, and communities.

Ms. Law expressed her honor in contributing to the development of future educators and hopes the course will empower students to better support families in their future teaching roles, especially those facing complex challenges. Our law firm takes pride in contributing to legal education in this meaningful way and remains committed to bridging professional expertise with societal needs.
